Last year, the president of Iceland said that if he had his way, pineapple on pizza would be banned.
Throughout the last several years, the controversy of pineapple as a pizza topping has inspired numerous articles, memes and songs.
Now, it is finally time to put this dispute to rest. Pineapple belongs on pizza.
Pineapple as a pizza topping shouldn’t be frowned upon just because it’s a fruit. We put tomatoes on pizza and technically, tomatoes are fruits.
People who don’t like pineapple on pizza just don’t have a palette sophisticated enough to truly appreciate the taste. The pineapple provides a sweet tanginess to offset the heavy saltiness of the meat and cheese, making it a perfect combination of sweet and savory.
Pineapple is a superior pizza topping for only the most cultured of palettes and should most definitely not be banned in Iceland or anywhere else.
