Homecoming themes stray from the norm

When Homecoming commissioners senior Lauren Lin and junior Amanda Le were contemplating possible themes over the summer, they agreed they wanted something different from what’s been done in recent years. Announced on Aug. 30, this year’s Homecoming theme is videogames.

“[Le] and I met up over the summer and went through a bunch of themes and videogames was the one that seemed the most different,” Lin said. “We really wanted to stray from the whole movie and TV show type thing,” Lin said.

The senior class picked “Super Mario Bros.,” juniors picked  “Pokemon,” sophomores picked “Pacman” and the freshmen were left with“Club Penguin.”

Le and Lin are hoping that the new theme will prompt a change in this year’s skits, dances and costumes, because the usual themes revolved around the film industry.

“This year, students can get more creative with their skits. Its also kind of futuristic in a way since video games are electronic,” Le said. “Because there are more cartoon characters, there should be more options on how to dress up.”

The festivities start Sept. 30 with each class performing their quad days consecutively throughout the week, ending with the senior’s quad day on Friday. The week will round out with the football game on Oct. 4 and the Homecoming dance on Saturday, Oct. 5.
