Vikings plunder Falcons due to weak Falcon passing game

An almost non existent passing game and costly turnovers lead the Falcons to be plundered by the Palo Alto Vikings 28-14 on Oct. 17, in front of a wild Palo Alto crowd. Though the Falcons had 170 yards rushing on the ground, they only had 23 yards through the air.

The Falcons’ offense moved the ball well in their first drive, gaining consistent yards on the ground, until the Falcons threw an errant pass that was intercepted by senior Viking defensive back Will Holder for a touchdown, leaving the Falcons down 7-0 early in the game.

The Vikings scored again in the late in the second quarter on a 63 yard pass, increasing their lead to 14-0. The Falcons were unable to stop Vikings quarterback Will Brandin as he threw for two touchdowns and over 200 yards.

The Falcons let up another touchdown as the Vikings score on a 2-yard run in the goal line in the third quarter. Down 21-0 in the middle of the third quarter, the Falcons did not get discouraged as they blocked a punt in the following drive, which led to a safety, giving the Falcons two points and the ball back.

Late in the game, senior running back Casey Farmer scored on a 10-yard run. The Falcons attempted the two-point conversion but failed, resulting in a 21-8 Viking lead. Farmer quickly scored again off a run, but with time working against them, the Falcons could not rally for a late fourth quarter comeback. The Vikings score once more before the contest was over.

Next, the Falcons play their local rivals, Los Gatos Wildcats, at home on Oct. 24.
