The 98th Oscars Academy Awards, held on March 15, gave way to many impressive new styles and some oddballs. In the spirit of the award show, I’ll give out six awards: Best Dressed Female, Best Dressed Male, Most Unusual, Most Unconventional, Best Statement Piece and Best Colors.

Best Dressed Female: Teyana Taylor
American actor and singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor, who was nominated for best supporting actress in “One Battle After Another,” wore a custom Chanel gown by Matthieu Blazy. The dress, with its striking contrast between sheer and textured fringes, sparkled with its black- and white-themed sequins. Paired with a Tiffany & Co. 18-carat diamond necklace, earring and rings, the jewelry stood out without overshadowing the beauty of the dress.

Best Dressed Male: Pedro Pascal
Although men’s fashion at most award shows is often quite similar with simple tuxedo or suit looks, actor Pedro Pascal stood out at the Oscars because of the unique no-blazer look. His Chanel tuxedo shirt was basic, but the textured fringe flower on his left chest brought the look to a higher level. Matched with tuxedo pants and a chic watch, Pascal outdressed the rest of the suited men at the Oscars this year.

Most unusual: Demi Moore
Decked with an extravagant Gucci gown with feathers spanning from her shoulders to the floor, Demi Moore’s black and green mermaid dress attracted major attention. The detailing of each feather — all in different hues of green or black — blended seamlessly with the green, scaled bodice. Her dress was unlike any other at the Oscars and certainly stunned everyone on the red carpet.

Most unconventional: Kevin O’Leary
It’s no surprise to anyone that TV personality and investor Kevin O’Leary does many odd things simply for attention; however, his outfit at the Oscars made some critics claim he was simply
“struggling for relevance.” Other than the overly dramatic suit with shiny silver detailing, his chain — displaying a one-of-a-kind “Triple Logoman” trading card — is what confused many people. The Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan Triple Logoman Necklace has a reported worth of around $30 million. Just like his presence at the Oscars, the necklace seems out of place with the rest of his outfit.

Best statement piece: Anne Hathaway
Among striking dresses and high-end jewelry, Anne Hathaway’s Bulgari Neoclassical Starlight High Jewelry necklace outshone other statement pieces. The necklace, a piece from the Eclettica collection, is a constellation of pear-shaped diamonds with a detachable pendant. The pop of yellow which attaches the pendant to the necklace adds another dimension to the already glittering necklace. The low cut of her dress allows for the necklace to pop against her collarbone without any distraction, perfectly allowing the piece to be the statement.

Best colors: Chase Infiniti
Chase Infiniti’s dress was not only stunning on the 25-year-old star of “One Battle After Another,” but the color was absolutely striking against her complexion. Her lavender dress and yellow-cushion diamond choker balanced each other wonderfully and highlighted her youth.
This Oscars featured high-end designer outfits and jewelry, and almost every person shined on the red carpet. Although the fashion is overlooked for the actual awards, the Oscars always feature custom fits and intricate designs that continue to fascinate audiences across the nation.
