From overcrowding sinks to creeping out passersby, ants are the worst surprise when I’m trying to peacefully use the school bathrooms. On top of that, you tend to see them everywhere you go around campus.
Why would ants even be there in the first place? It’s simple: Students make the strange decision to bring food into bathrooms and are sloppy with it. Eating in a bathroom is already a questionable decision, but making matters worse, food somehow always spills all over the floor. Obviously, it’s no wonder a whole colony of ants makes a home there in a day or two.
At this point, I would rather just go to a different bathroom than have a load of ants crawling up my arm.
Not surprisingly, this problem has spread beyond just school bathrooms, as there have been a lot more ants in classrooms all over the school. Due in part to many students eating and spilling food in classrooms and in other areas around school, ants have become a common sight around campus.
A lot of kids sitting on the tables in the quad don’t care enough to throw away their leftover lunches in the trash cans before leaving for class, even after many constant reminders, leaving custodians to have to clean it up. Lunches that stay there, however, start attracting more and more ants by the day. The same is true of messy eating in classrooms.
I really think that students should care more about being neat and throwing away their food — it’s not that hard to walk a few steps to a trash can before getting to class. You would save the custodians some work while also keeping away all the countless invading armies of ants.
