With the first substantial rain of the season forecast for Monday and Tuesday, at least some Homecoming Quad Day performances will take place in the gym, breaking the years-long tradition of performances taking place outside in the quad.
Staff are scheduled to perform Monday at lunch. Then freshmen will go Tuesday, sophomores on Wednesday, juniors on Thursday and seniors on Friday.
The spirit commission and Leadership teacher Mark Higashioka are considering the feasibility of moving tennis bleachers into the quad before the latter half of the week, which is forecast to be sunny. If the tennis bleachers are moved, classes will have the option of performing in the gym or outside, depending on weather conditions and safety.
Many students are pessimistic about changes to the years-long Quad Day traditions, but spirit commission member senior Joshua Chan noted some of the benefits of the changed location.
“Though Quad Day will feel cramped, the gym offers possibly more seats than the quad, so more students can enjoy the quad day performances,” Chan said.
Even though at least some Quad Day performances have been relocated, Quad Day decoration remains largely the same. Only seniors will decorate the school, while the decoration location might be moved to suit the gym quad days.
Despite these adjustments, Chan still thinks the Homecoming will be a popular event.
“These changes won’t be forever, and I [still] look forward to this, even though it’s moved to the gym,” Chan said.
