On Aug. 13, the roughly 1,100 students at the school faced the reality of starting classes again and many felt particularly unfortunate this year. Why so unfortunate, you ask? Because school started on a Wednesday instead of a more ideal Thursday.
This meant the schedule for the rest of the week went Red Day, Blue Day, Red Day — a total of 11 classes for those taking seven periods. Notice how Red Days occurred twice and Blue Days only once? Instead of giving students time to adjust to all their new classes with a strategically planned weekend, suddenly, they already had homework due on Friday.
Not only that, but this schedule creates a slight unfairness for students who have particularly hard classes on Red Days. They had to finish their homework in two nights while students with the same Blue Day classes had a weekend to finish their work. Starting the school year with a short first week is a great idea, but it makes better sense if it starts on a Thursday.
