The softball team took on all competitors in the lower El Camino League this spring, winning every game and ending with a 14-0 regular season record. The league championship was a great success, as it was the first since the 2012-2013 season.
Now the Falcons, coached by Greg Spirakis, are looking to advance deep into CCS, with their first game against a talented Mills at home on May 24 at 9 a.m. Mills has a 21-3-1 record, placing 2nd in the Peninsula Ocean League.
Senior and team captain Saira Ramakrishnan, the team’s ace pitcher, led the season on and off the field with a batting average of .429, and is committed to the University of Rochester for softball. She credits the team’s success to the strong camaraderie and dedication among the members.
“This season especially, all the girls are really motivated,” Ramakrishnan said. “We all work well together and it’s a really easy team to get along with. Everyone’s super talkative and friendly — we’re all super excited and we want to be there.”
After this season, the team will be losing the majority of their star players. Senior first baseman Maggie Huesby, right fielder Dahlia Murthy, batter Sydney Riera and Ramakrishnan all fill key roles and provide leadership. But the current freshmen and incoming 8th graders present hope for the team’s future.
Current star underclassmen players include Tsang and freshman center fielder Alyssa Tham.
“Obviously, there are pretty big shoes to fill,” Ramakrishnan said. “But, we have a strong freshman class and I think that this team will survive without us, and do better than ever.”
