The long awaited moment many seniors had been waiting for arrived on May 19 when they stepped into the InterContinental San Francisco hotel to attend Senior Prom, themed “A Moment Like This.”
After planning throughout the year, the senior class officers finally saw their hard work pay off.
“[We planned constantly] almost every day after school [for the past month],” senior class president Nicole Shadman said.
A total of 316 students and chaperones attended senior prom. According to Shadman, turnout was extremely successful.
Senior Ariel Cheng spent two hours getting ready for the big night and greatly enjoyed the food and music. However, she felt that prom was a little too long this year.
“I think [prom] shouldn’t be that long. It started at 5 and ended at 11:30. It was super long so by the time it was 10:30, [my friends and I] were wondering, ‘When does this end?’” Cheng said.
Students were generally satisfied with the DJ, whose performance often sets the tone for the dance.
“He was decent,” Cheng said. “He played ghetto music, but he was really into it!”
The senior class chose their venue last spring, but people were still awed by the grandeur of the hotel. According to senior Alex Chiang, the students were restricted to staying on the provided floor, but he still thought the hotel was nice.
“With the lighting, [the hotel] looked really good so I was very impressed and excited for a great night,” Shadman said.
One complaint from both Cheng and Chiang was that the steak was tough. Chiang also added that there was not a variety of drinks available, only water and cranberry juice.
Overall, however, the night was a success and the senior class thoroughly enjoyed their time.
“The best part was hearing the comments, whether good or bad, and seeing that my class really enjoyed prom,” Shadman said. “Overall, they liked it, and it makes me really happy when something the council has worked really hard on is appreciated.”
