Dear Santa,
My name is Shirina and I am 17 years old. I hope you are well, staying warm in the North Pole and preparing yourself for a jolly holiday season.
I know I’m a little bit above your usual age bracket for presents, but I have a Christmas wish you might be able to help with: a dream college admission.
This item has been on my wish list for years. Not to exaggerate, but it feels like all my life has been building up to this moment: getting good grades, taking those grueling Kumon classes and suffering under the high expectations of my Asian parents.
In previous years, you have always made sure to deliver on my requests. I’ve been reading that self-help book “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking” and using my AirPods every single day. I remember sitting on your lap when I was a young girl and asking you for a new house (which I never got, by the way, so maybe you can deliver on this someday), but I know I can trust you with this important task.
Why should you fulfill this Christmas wish?
For one thing, I’ve been very good this year. I only spent $237 on boba. I go to bed before 12 a.m. every day (mostly). I brush my teeth twice every day. I help old ladies across the street. Ask any of my friends, and they’ll agree I’m a good person.
College is only four years, but this may change the trajectory of my life course forever. I’m leaning toward somewhere around New York and L.A., with a nice city vibe. That way, I can take aesthetic walks in between lectures and live out my fantasies as a city girlie. I know the college package doesn’t include it, but could you add a boyfriend? I’m looking for a guy in finance, trust fund, 6’5’’, blue eyes.
Actually, I can ask for a boyfriend in a different year. This year, you can just focus your energy on helping me get into a good college Santa! (Top 50 will suffice).
Love,
Shirina
P.S. If I don’t get into college, can I come join you in the North Pole?
