‘Bosco twin’ subs for injured campus supervisor

During lunch, students might spot a guy who looks like assistant principal Joe Bosco in a casual wear. Many speculate that they are brothers, but in reality they are not. This “Bosco-twin” is actually Alfonso Gil Vasquez, who is subbing for campus supervisor Ben Cobarrubias, who is not working right now because of a back injury.

“I have been subbing ever since mid-September. I sub for whatever they want and every day,” said Vasquez.

Before coming to Saratoga High, Vasquez worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car as a branch manager in sales and at YMCA as a basketball coach.

“I grew in the area. I went to Prospect High, then to San Jose State. I heard from most people I know in the district (about the opening for sub-camp supervisor) and then I saw it on the joint district website,” said Vasquez.

He has been subbing as a campus supervisor and a seventh period P.E. Teacher three times a week.

“I love this job. It is my passion to be teacher. I want to teach History or P.E.,” said Vasquez.

Vasquez graduated in 2003 at San Jose State with a BA degree in History and speech and communications. Right now, he is attending National University to get his teaching credential.

As campus supervisor, he has run into a few challenges.

“Some problems that I have are students leaving during tutorial or school time and freshman and sophomores leaving during lunch,” said Vasquez.

Since Vasquez grew up in the area, he always thought that Saratoga High is a great school.

“I really like the administrators here, especially [Bosco] and Jeff [Anderson]; they’re really nice guys,” said Vasquez.

Bosco is impressed by the effort Vasquez has put into his job.

“I think he has done a great job. We are really happy with his willingness to take on job opportunities, subbing and getting involved. We’re happy to have him,” said Bosco.
