Tech room remodeled to have a more suitable working environment

The tech room is finally being remodeled after being an inconvenient working area for about seven years, said IT manager Julie Grenier.

The administration had been hoping to remodel the room for about two years, but it wasn’t until this year that work finally began. The remodeling began in September and construction finished the week of Oct. 20. The room was completed the following week after finishing touches were added to the room, including a coat of wax on the floor tiles.

The tech room, located in the 800 wing, is the center of the school’s technology. The room runs the wi-fi and school web filters. It is also connected to the server room next door. The tech guru room is also where broken computers are repaired and where all of the school’s data flows from.

Before the room was remodeled, it was a unsuitable place to work in, with open stud walls, a lack of insulation and poorly lighting. There were also no operable windows and hardware was placed on shelves that were originally meant for books, said Grenier.

“The floor was only cement and the ceiling was dropping tiles,” said Spencer Sands, the IT technician.

Grenier said the old office was cramped and inconvenient.

“The room was hard to hold meetings in since it didn’t have much space,” said Grenier.

The room received many improvements that will benefit those who work in the room. These additions include a new drop-ceiling with proper lighting, new floor tiles, new windows, actual walls with insulation, new paint and new baseboard. The maintenance crew has also refurbished a large cabinet that is lower and more appropriate for holding the room’s technology . The total estimated cost comes to around $15,000 according to Brian Moran, the plant operation supervisor.

“We’re glad to provide a new, clean and professional office for Mrs. Grenier, the IT manager, and the students who work with her,” said Moran. “Before we remodeled the room, it was a substandard environment for them to work in.”

Grenier greatly appreciates all the work the maintenance crew has done toward remodeling her office.

“They did a wonderful job renovating the room,” said Grenier. “I think it’s great that we can have good lighting and fresh air now.”
