Last week was successful for the girls varsity field hockey team. They won both their games, beating Monta Vista 2-1 on Wednesday and Leland 4-1 on Friday.

Against Monta Vista, junior Rachel Leonard scored the first goal. Megan Doles scored the second goal, with an assist from junior Allison Bruno. The goalkeepers, senior Abby Williams and junior Vanessa Banks-Diez, both played well with one save and three saves, respectively. A defensive save was also made by junior Evelyn Lee.

In the game with Leland, juniors Doles, Leonard, Courtney Ruppel and Jenni Miller scored, with assists from Bruno, senior Anna Ashe, Leonard, and junior Hannah Johnson. Williams had five saves, and Lee made one defensive save.

The success so far in the pre-season has positively impacted the team morale, but the number of games left to play is significant, says Coach Leaf Huynh.

“The last two games have only been a confidence boost for the team,” says Huynh. “We have a very long season ahead of us, and want to take one game at a time.”
