The school recently determined Lisa Fung will be honored as this year’s valedictorian and Anushka Sankaran is the salutatorian. They received these honors because they have the highest weighted academic GPAs among the senior class.
When Fung received a letter from principal Greg Louie informing her about the honor, she said she was pleasantly surprised. To earn her 4.80 weighted academic GPA, she took 18 AP and three honors courses throughout high school. Outside of academics, Fung also participated in girls’ volleyball and was a captain of the track and field team. She has also served as president of both the Spanish and Economics clubs on top of competing in Olympiad math competitions and doing science research.
Sankaran, who earned a 4.64 weighted academic GPA by taking 10 AP and five honors courses, was also surprised when the school had called her to inform her of her achievement. For her extracurriculars, she served as the president of the speech and debate team and participated in hackathons.
“My counselor told me I was in consideration but I definitely didn’t expect it, so for me it was a really cool experience,” Sankaran said.
Fung will attend Stanford and major in computer science while Sankaran will attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and major in math and computer science.
