As a result of the new LED scoreboard recently installed at the Saratoga High Aquatic Center, swim meets will be more organized, water polo players will know how much time is remaining in the quarter and the school will likely host more aquatic events. The ol faulty and out-of-date scoreboard, which continually caused problems for the Falcons swimming and water polo teams, was replaced by a brand new top-of-the-line system earlier this month.
The 10-year-old scoreboard at the Saratoga High Aquatic Center was replaced by a 9’6” by 15’9” LED scoreboard from Colorado Display Systems.
The previous system created technical difficulties at almost all aquatic sporting events and was extremely out of date.
“Technology changes every five minutes so the old scoreboard was way out of date,” said girls’ varsity water polo coach Courtney Crase.
The new scoreboard is “the latest and greatest” and features animation capabilities and a wireless system. It also has top-of-the-line software for both swimming and water polo.
The previous scoreboard was 10 panels, which limited swim meets to eight participants, but the new system has 12 panels that allow 10 swimmers.
The system called the Colorado System 6 cost a total of $70,000 and was installed by a crew headed by contractor John Crase, the father of Courtney. The school received a large anonymous donation and a minor donation to pay for it.
The system also includes a water polo horn and a wireless pace clock. The scoreboard was installed in time for the first game of the water polo season on Sept. 13.
