The boys’ lacrosse team battled to a 3-7 record this year, having been placed in the higher ranked De Anza league this year.
Their record didn’t match what they had last year in the less competitive El Camino League, and they felt they could have won more if a few more things had gone their way.
“It was really sad knowing that we lost some games to teams that we could’ve easily beaten,” senior captain Seena Ghafouri said.
Besides facing tougher competition such as Los Altos and Los Gatos, the Falcon also lost many players to injury. For example, senior Anthony Oliveri broke his collarbone, senior Daelen Denenburg suffered a concussion and senior Ryan Westman hurt his ankle, all forcing them to miss action.
Junior left wing Miles Owyang said that in every game the team showed “flashes of what [they] could be” but were never consistent enough to win more games.
Because captains Ghafouri, Aidan Peck, Kian Ghelichkhani and Orion Milazzo are all seniors, the team will lose both talent and leadership next year. Additionally, this year, boys’ lacrosse does not have a JV program, making the search for talent even harder.
“We will be focusing on developing the younger players skills,” Owyang said. “I hope there will be a lot of talent coming in next year.”
Despite the losing record this season, there were still some positive moments. Ghafouri’s favorite came against Gunn, when Peck scored 10 goals — breaking the school's previous record of nine in a single game. Peck had tied the school record during his sophomore year, but was only able to break it this year.
“It was a really great accomplishment for me — I’m glad to finally break that record during my last season,” Peck said.
Peck said that even though they fell short of the success they wanted, no one ever gave up.
“I feel like we had a lot of heart in every single game, and if we’re this resilient we have a chance at going far next season,” Owyang said.
