For seniors, Life is good. Most have picked a college, started searching for dorms, and planned their senior trips. And, for the first time, they will be taking their finals a week earlier than the rest of the school.
Seniors will all take their finals the week of June 1st —before the official finals week. The school made this decision based on the fact that seniors are in a much different atmosphere than the rest of the students this time of year.
“The seniors really just want to get out of here,” said principal Jeff Anderson. “On the other hand you have the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who are all still working hard. It’s really just two different environments.”
Each department is expected to come up with their own methods of organizing ways for the seniors to take their final exams early if they have other juniors in their classes. Some teachers have introduced the idea that seniors who are happy with their current grades will have the option to not take the final. However, this method is still being debated.
Instead of taking their finals, the seniors will spend their final week of school on graduation practice and other scheduled senior activities such as Beach day and Senior awards night.
“We used this policy when I used to teach and it was very effective so I guess we’ll just have to see how it works out,” said Anderson.
According to Anderson, depending on how successful this schedule is, this year’s schedule could become a permanent change.
