From starting lacrosse as a freshman with absolutely no experience, senior Bria Lee now has become one of the captains and best midfielders for the team.
“Lacrosse was really new to our school when I first started playing as a freshman,” Lee said. “So everyone was learning how to play together and that's when I knew I really liked the sport and wanted to continue.”
Lee has been working her way to the top in the past four years through hard work and commitment.
“During my sophomore year I got a gym membership and I started working out on my own during the off season doing Crossfit and kickboxing,” Lee said. “This helped me improve my strength and skill and stay in better shape than I was when I was a freshman.”
Looking back, the lacrosse team has evolved over the four years, taking on bigger rivals and winning more games as well.
“I think our skill level has gone up a lot and our motivation to do better against the tough teams like Palo Alto and St. Francis has gotten better,” Lee said.
In her leadership role, Lee teaches freshmen and sophomores just like herself, who are starting out with no experience.
Sophomore attack player Christina Crolla said, “She teaches me techniques like cradling and motivates me to do better, making me feel like part of the team.”
Lee hopes that the team will qualify for SCVAL (Santa Clara Valley Athletic League) finals this year through their teamwork and motivation.
“We all have fun on the field, and I think that's a really important part of keeping everyone motivated,” Lee said. “The fact that we have a lot of potential to make it to SCVALs this season really shows.”
Earlier in the season the lacrosse team played four non-league games, splitting them 2-2. They lost to Sacred Heart 12-4, but beat Mercy 16-21 and Notre Dame 23-10. The team has played one league game against Palo Alto, losing 13-8. The team is looking ahead to a big game against Los Gatos on March 21, which will be played at home.
