The annual Homecoming night rally started off with a video about three girls who visit Atlanta, Rome, Tokyo and Cairo at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30. It was followed by three activities: the dating game, dodgeball, and birthday celebration. Then the rally commissioners announced the kings and queens.
After this pronouncement, the commissioners decided to play a prank. The Night Rally ended with the usual class songs.
The well-received video was followed by a dating game. Senior Ashley Cole was supposed to choose to one of the three boys, sophomore Dillan Pak, junior Kyle Keating and senior Chris Rea, to be her homecoming date.
Rally commissioner junior Chelsea Sabella said, “The boys answered all of her questions with the most ridiculous answers that they could think of, and in the end she chose Rea.”
The next game was German dodgeball. The teams were seniors and sophomores versus juniors and freshmen with three boys representing each
grade. Captains were senior Joey Avery and junior Grant Thomas. The seniors and sophomores won.
“[For the next activity] we decided to do a kissing game on [senior] Michael Beam. He had to try to figure out which kiss was from his girlfriend and which was from one of the two ‘hot senior girls’ who were really rally members [seniors] Michael Guercio and Mat Spencer,” said Sabella.
Since it was Beam’s birthday, senior Kaylee Pettengill and the rally commissioners celebrated with a cake made by Pettengill and with singing.
Then the rally commission announced the Homecoming princes and princess, as well as the potential kings and queens. For the freshmen, Chad Keating was prince, and Megan Kao was princess. Sophomores Vanessa Block and James Reed were chosen for their class and junior prince and princess were Max Snyder and Chiyo Hartley. Senior candidates were Chris Rea, Matt Spencer, and Michael Guercio for king and Mara Couch, Christina Roberts and Juliana Glausi for queen.
The rally commission then decided to play a prank on assistant principal Joe Bosco. They gave Bosco a meal of hamburger and French fries from Red Robin while rally member senior Laura Ruddy smashed the whipped pie on Bosco’s face.
“The prank on Mr. Bosco was actually a last minute add-on,” said Sabella. “Initially, the prank was planned to be a different staff member who had put a request in the wish box, but they didn’t show up.”
Toward the end of the rally, each class performed a class song. The purpose was to promote their own class while trying to bring down the others.
“The class songs are a Homecoming tradition at SHS that go towards your classes overall score in Homecoming,” said Sabella.
Many, students thought that this rally was enjoyable.
Sophomore Keerti Shukla said, “I thought that the rally was really fun. The games that [the students] played were good. The rally was funny to watch.”
The next rally will be on Oct. 24 for the Los Gatos vs. Saratoga football game.
