After beating the underclassmen teams over the course of two preliminary games played on April 3 and 4, the junior and senior Powderpuff teams faced off on April 5 in this year’s Powderpuff final with the junior team taking the win 6-0.
On Tuesday the freshman and junior classes squared off, with the juniors emerging with an 18-0 victory. The following day, the seniors beat the sophomores 6-0.
On Thursday, the remaining two teams came head to head for the title. Junior Sash Pickard scored a running touchdown early on, and the seniors, unable to score, didn’t bridge the gap, resulting in an upset 6-0 win for the juniors.
Pickard attributed her team’s success to the student coaches, juniors Matt Jacobs, Justin Chao, Dorian Glon and Ryan Huesby helping each player practice their positions and signaling different cues for specific plays.
“Everyone showed up to practices too,” Pickard said, “We have a lot of very athletic girls in our grade, and we just really wanted to win.”
Nevertheless, the seniors enjoyed one final Powderpuff.
“When we started to pick up momentum, it was too late,” senior Chloe McGhee said. “But it was a fun last Powderpuff and regardless of the result, we all had fun getting ready for the game and sharing the experience together.”
