Sophomores Aditya Dev and Chris Chung like to stand out. That is why it surprised no one when the two of them, along with a group of friends, showed up to school on April 23 in board shorts, visors, sandals and pooka shell necklaces.
“The first Thursday was supposed to be like a college-aged, southern California ‘bro,’” said Dev.
The two enjoyed the day so much that they decided to do it again the next week. This time the theme was Country Club. Informed the night before through a Facebook group, around 20 students showed up to school in collared shirts, sweaters, khakis and carrying golf clubs or tennis rackets.
“Every Thursday we have a new theme and Thursday has become the best day of my week,” said Chung. “Some of the outfits are completely ridiculous, especially the one [sophomore] Tim Lycurgus wore for beach day.”
Dev and Chung say they plan to continue the weekly event through the end of the year and into next year. Some other themes include college wear, animals and mythical creatures and ninjas and pirates.
“We want the club to increase school spirit,” said Dev. “ Next year we are having red pride days on the day of every football game.”
