The lacrosse team has ended its inaugural season, finally rewarding the years of effort put forth by parents, administrators and students who sought to have it as a school sport.

In their last several games, the boys, who finished 1-13, showed great improvement and looked like a genuine lacrosse team.

Although some of the last games were against some of the best schools in the league, those against more evenly matched teams, like Leland, Sacred Heart Prep and Los Gatos were all much closer. This improvement gives the team much more to build off of next year.

The nearly 30-some players said they were glad to have lacrosse on the spring sports roster.

“I think it’s really cool that we can say that we started the lacrosse program at Saratoga High,” said junior Danny Baldwin. “Not many other students can make that claim for any sport.”

As these boys have learned, high expectations cannot be set for any first-year team, but prospects for the future are bright.

“Our team this year was made up mostly of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen,” said junior Adam Oreglia, “which means that most of our essential players will be returning next year.”

Additionally, the team can also expect an influx of several experienced freshmen next year from the Redhawks Lacrosse Club.

As for the coaching staff, head coach Nathan Zanon is currently expecting to return next year, assistant coach Frank Resetarits, a player for the Stealth, may not be.

“It’s hard to predict that far in advance,” said Resetarits. “I don’t know if I may get traded or even if the Stealth will still be in San Jose next year due to the rough fiscal situation.”
