When the girls’ golf team went to the SCVAL finals on Oct. 25, the team hoped to qualify for the CCS.
Their task was to try to be Lynbrook at the Santa Teresa course.
Earlier in the season, they had lost to the Vikings, and they knew they were in for a tough matchup this time.
Playing on a muddy course, only the team’s No. 2 player, junior Sarah Lo, was able to qualify for CCS after placing seventh with a score of 79 for 18 holes.
“Since the course was much longer than what we are used to, most of us practiced our longer clubs for more distance,” senior Cynthia Yang said. “I think this may be one reason why the team did not perform as well as we thought we could.”
The cut off for CCS was 83; however, most of the team did not perform up as well as they thought they could, Yang said.
Sophomore Janelle Jin, the team’s No. 1 player, was the second hopeful looking to make it to CCS but came up one shot short.
Looking back at the season, the team believes that they could have performed better all round. The Falcons ended up fifth in their division, suffering five losses at the start. Despite this, the team went into league finals with confidence from their 214-266 win over Los Altos on Oct. 17 and a 221-232 win over Palo Alto on Oct. 13.
