The Make-a-Wish Foundation will be able to make more ailing children's dreams come true after $8,000 was raised during the Benefit Fashion Show held on March 29 in the Small Gym. Tickets were sold for $15.
The show started with teachers modeling, including science teacher Lisa Cochrum, Chinese teacher Mariam Fan, history teacher Jim Chin and athletic director Tim Lugo; students then modeled clothes that were grouped in several categories. The show was followed by a silent auction, where items such as wine, yoga packages, trips to wineries, a makeover package at benefit cosmetics, a fishing trip and a golfing trip were sold.
The categories consisted of different themes, including Disney, Into the Wild, Sports, Prom, First Date and Girls Night Out, with students modeling different clothing for each category. Approximately 100 students from all grades modeled.
According to organizer Ingrid Hong, the fashion show was difficult to pull off this year because the organizers had less time than usual to prepare.
“Because we were so limited on time, some aspects of the show could've gone smoother,” Hong said. “The time crunch definitely held us back.”
Hong said that preparation for the show started in early February, while in previous years, the organizers had the whole year and summer to prepare.
In addition to the short amount of time, there were other challenges that the organizers had to overcome.
According to organizer Catherine Liu, there were problems with music, lighting, funding, and clothes, as well as a limited amount of helpers.
There were also technical difficulties with music and video during the performance, according to Hong.
“It's a really good opportunity to bring the whole Saratoga community together and help kids with illnesses complete their wishes,” Liu said.
Junior Meghna Chakraborty, who modeled in the Boho category, described the event as an enjoyable experience.
“It was cool to see all the different outfits for the different themes, and to see your friends and classmates dress up,” Chakraborty said.
