FBLA competition yields good results

Seated in a brightly lit room, sophomore Mena Wang looks over the next question on the multiple choice test. “The affairs and property of FBLA shall be managed by ____.” Wang hesitates a second before choosing answer “C” which reads “board of directors.”
Wang along with students from Saratoga High competed in in a Future Business Leaders of America Club (FBLA) Conference on March 1 at Homestead High after months of studying. The club competed against 27 high schools and over 900 students while placing top 10 in nine different competition subjects about real-world business practices. Members competed individually, but represented the school as a team.
The entire competition is a variety of tests comprising of different subjects from business communications to management decision making, yet students enjoyed the challenging prospects that it offered.
“It was really nice to know that after all that work we were able to pull in fourth place [in Parliamentary Procedure],” sophomore Mena Wang, a member of FBLA, said.
Senior Nikki Thareja, president of FBLA, said that the awards ceremony was  exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.
“Every time a Saratoga kid won we would all scream and cheer like there was no tomorrow,” said Thareja.
Thareja thinks that the team did extremely well in comparison to last year.
Right now,  seniors  Thareja, Jonathan Yang, Nelson Wang, Kevin Jiang, junior Alex Kim and freshman Leslie Huang and Michelle Xu have been preparing for the California Future Business Leaders of America State Conference in April. Thareja hopes that the team will eventually make it to the nationals in Nashville.
