Another year has passed and Christmas traditions are back

It’s finally the holiday season — the time for last-minute shopping and dragging those dusty ornaments out of the garage to hang upon your Christmas tree. But more importantly, it’s the time of the year for holiday-related movie and music traditions.
Every Christmas Eve, my family and I wind up plopped on the couch watching “A Christmas Story,” the story of a child’s desire for a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas, play on ABC Family. Despite practically knowing the scenes by heart, the classic never ceases to make me laugh.
Another holiday classic, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” is a favorite among many families and a film I enjoy watching. However, for reasons I’m unsure of, my family never watches this delightful movie. Come on, who doesn’t like Dr. Seuss?
Along with the traditional films, there are also everyone’s favorite Christmas songs. That is, everyone but me.
It seems like I’m the only one who can’t stand all the annoying Christmas music that I’m forced to listen to on 96.5 KOIT every year. Driving to school every morning becomes even more dreadful as my mom refuses to listen to any other station. I don’t understand how people can stand listening to Michael Bublé’s Christmas album or Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Sorry, Mariah, all I want for Christmas is to not have to listen to you.
So while your family is asleep on Christmas Eve, I’ll be up watching movies with mine, doing my best not to fall asleep during a movie I’ve already watched dozens of times before.
