Senior Stevie Berman grew up around baseball. His father starred for the UCLA Bruins and continued to play in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system for three years during the 1980s.
At a young age, Berman dominated the diamonds of Congress Springs, playing for Saratoga Little League, before moving on to the travel ball fields and then finally high school.
As a freshman at Saratoga, Berman made the varsity baseball team before being sidelined for the whole season by arm injury. As a sophomore, Berman won second team-all league honors and was voted the most valuable underclassman.
“I love playing baseball and being able to bounce back from an injury like that was really satisfying,” Berman said.
His junior year was one to remember. One of the anchors of the team both offensively and defensively, Berman led the team to a CCS quarterfinal finish. He won first team all league and was an all CCS honorable mention. He also verbally committed to play baseball at Santa Clara University during his junior year.
“I chose Santa Clara because of its overall prestige as a school. It is a good academic school with a strong baseball program,” Berman said.
As a senior, Berman leads the team in most offensive categories including batting average, RBIs, and extra base hits. Berman is hitting well over .500. Behind the plate, he continues to be a strong presence for pitchers and leads the team. On the mound, Berman closes for the Falcons with a fastball in the upper 80s.
“Steve is a huge part of our team. Words can’t describe his contributions to the team,” junior Jason Aoki said.
