Field hockey advances to semifinals at CCS

The field hockey team set the tone for what they hope will be a successful run at CCS championships with a 2-0 shutout against Leigh on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The No. 2 ranked Falcons, with a league record of 8-1-3, faced off against No. 7 Longhorns, with a record of 10-3-1, in the CCS quarterfinals at Willow Glen High School at 2:45. Saratoga had a bye for the first round of playoffs.

Sophomore Vanessa Block helped the Falcons to pull ahead early in the game with a goal from the top of the circle barely three minutes into the game.

Senior Katie Marsh also scored a goal in the 15th minute of the first quarter off of a free hit by senior co-captain Laura Ruddy.

The Falcons managed to keep the ball on offense for the majority of the game, controlled by midfielder sophomores Ren Norris and Block. Senior co-captain Kelly Darchuk also managed several breakaways throughout the game.

Saratoga goes on to play No. 3 ranked St. Francis next Tuesday on home turf under the lights on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 5:30.
