Freshmen girls perform a dance at their "Home Alone" themed quad day.

The freshman class faced the challenge of their first Homecoming with a positive attitude and an optimistic mindset, hoping to impress the other classes and their teachers.

"We really [tried] to work hard on Homecoming and mark our first year at SHS with a bang,” freshman class vice president Luke Salin said.

The freshmen, who were left with “Home Alone,” found this  popular movie a difficult theme to work with.

According to freshman Tyler Yoshihara, the freshmen did the best with a sticky situation and tried to emphasize the comedic parts of “Home Alone.”

"Class spirit has been surprisingly high. We had a lot of people helping work on decorations every weekend and our skit [came] along fairly well,” Yoshihara said.

The freshmen made quite a splash in their first year with blaring music and a wide song variety. While their skit was sparse in jokes, they managed to poke fun at the Homecoming problems of the junior class.

A joke about “Code 2014 getting disqualified” was received by applause and laughter.

"I really enjoyed the joke about the juniors getting disqualified because it was super funny, true, and yet it didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings. It was a good joke,” sophomore Addison Polcyn said.

According to freshman biology teacher Lisa Cochrum, compared to the previous years, the class of 2016 did a stellar job for freshmen.

"I think the freshmen were fantastic this year. They were more organized than the freshman class usually is,” Cochrum said.
