Interact ‘captures’ members through bonding activity

Around 35 students from the Interact club participated in team bonding games at Foothill Elementary after school on Nov. 22.

“The purpose of this event was to promote bonding, and get to know our members on a personal level, so it’s not just that they come hear us talk, but we’re more of a family to them,” club president junior Tiffany Yung said.

As one of the largest community service clubs on campus, Interact had 200 sign-ups this year. About 50 members come to each meeting.

For the first hour, the members played Capture the Flag, with junior club officers Derek Chao and Cody Cai choosing teams.

Members then wanted to play football, ultimate Frisbee, Sharks and Minnows and flag football. Some members played “hot lava monster” on the playground.

Freshman Joshua Pi, who attended the game, thought that it was a successful bonding event.

“It was pretty fun, and I got to know my Interact officers better,” Pi said. “I would probably attend another bonding event if they held one.”

Yung likewise felt that Interact’s event was largely a success despite the turnout that was lower than expected.

“I think we reached our main objective of bonding,” Yung said. “I can honestly say I know [the members’] names and would say hi to them in the halls.”
