The girls varsity field hockey team started their pre-season with a 2-2 tie against Cupertino on Thursday September 1. Both of Saratoga’s goals were scored in the second half, while Cupertino scored one goal in each half.
Junior Megan Doles scored the first goal for Saratoga on a short corner cross from junior Jenni Miller and on an assist from junior Hannah Johnson. Doles also scored the second goal.
Cupertino’s second goal came late in the second half, and was a devastating blow for the Falcons.
“It was really frustrating to tie especially because we were playing so well and had most of the control. The score line did not accurately reflect how the game went,” senior captain Anna Ashe said.
Ashe feels the team has a lot of potential to do well this year.
“We have a lot of talent and our team works really well together,” Ashe said.
Yet Ashe thinks the team still has work to do before the season starts.
“Our team right now is just rough around the edges. [Coach Leaf Huynh] has taught us a lot of new skills during preseason, and we just need to sharpen them up for the league,” Ashe said.
