Coach: Brad Frederickson (3rd year with girls’ varsity)
2010 Record: 11-22, 2-10 in the league
2010 Recap: Due to the loss of key seniors from the year before, the team’s performance last year failed to obtain satisfactory results.
Star player: Talia Sisco (senior, outside hitter)
Key Departures: Raven Sisco (graduated senior, libero/defense specialist), Hanna Nielson (graduated senior, setter/opposite hitter), Megan Brading (graduated senior, middle hitter), Sarah Blegan (graduated senior, outside hitter)
Key Additions: Juniors Corrine Moran (middle and back row), Sierra Smith (opposite hitter and back row) and Adriana Ivanko (outside hitter and back row), sophomores Julia Lee (opposite hitter and back row) and Tivoli Sisco (outside hitter and back row), and freshman Sara Parden (outside hitter and back row).
Keys to victory: “I would say the we have a very young team,” Frederickson said. According to Frederickson, volleyball is an exremely technical sport, and mastering the technique takes time. Therefore, younger players will need to spend extra effort in order to hone their abilities with the ball. The team is also on the shorter side in terms of height; in order to make up for this, they will need better skill than the other teams.
On putting it all together: “I think right now we need to focus on working together as a team. Everyone has different skills, and if we can put them together, I think we’ll be set.” – Moran
Magic number: 10. With many new additions, the 10-player team must work together to win.
