Girls’ Cross Country Preview 2011

Coach: Danny Moon, entering his fourth season as head coach

2010 Record: Runners senior Emily Williams and junior Maya Nag (each qualified for the state race last year)

2010 Recap: Although only Williams and Nag qualified for CCS last year, another key runner, junior Courtney Schlossareck, was injured. With this returning talent, the team hopes to reach state this year as team.

Star player: Schlossareck, Williams, Nag and senior Kristine Johnson

Key Departures: Jennifer Varnier

Key Additions: Schlossareck, who has fully recovered from the knee surgery that sidelined her for the end of last year’s cross country season and the entire track season

Keys to victory: The girls’ cross country team has had some discipline problems in previous years regarding runners shirking full workouts. To enforce the importance of these workouts, the team will emphasize team runs. While team management has invoked a more rigorous training schedule, cross country has not lost its fun in the midst of all this hard work. Every Friday, the team plans to bond by dressing up to certain themes.

On qualifying for the state meet: “We really have good chance of going to state this year as a team. With the runners we have and the amount of training and dedication that we have been putting in, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to make it.” – Schlossareck

Key number: 2. The number of varsity spots still open to be filled.
