When you reach junior year, you are rewarded with the privilege of being able to go off campus during the 40-minute lunch period. The reward is well deserved after two years of having to sit in the quad during lunch watching the freshmen running to the lunchline, sophomores arguing over who’s homework they can copy and other exciting sights.
For me, the first off-campus lunch of junior year was a special experience. I felt free, as if a weight had been removed, one step closer to the freedom of adulthood. But rule-breaking underclassmen corrupt this long-awaited rite of passage.
They enter junior year no longer excited for the long-awaited free lunch break. So, my sophomore friends, I should not see you at 85 anytime soon. Wait your turn.
