- Time blocking
Plan out your day and how much time you need for each subject. Make sure to account time for breaks.
- Eliminate distractions
I set time limits on social media apps and turn on “Do Not Disturb” while studying. This keeps me from doom scrolling or immediately texting my friends back.
- Write key items in a planner
At the end of every period, I write down what assignments and tests I need to study for. It’s helpful to map out my studying schedule and prioritize specific assignments.
- Drink something nutritional
I like to drink a smoothie while I study because it makes me feel healthy and aesthetic. You could say it makes for a smoother focus session.
- Light a candle
I love candles, and the soothing scents add to my studying ambiance. Keep the vibes up; keep productivity up.
- Candy rewards
If I have a pack of Welch’s fruit snacks next to me while I’m studying, I typically work faster and more efficiently so that I can eat it as soon as I finish.
- Use timer videos
Having an aesthetically pleasing timer in the background while studying motivates me to finish my assignment before I give myself a 5 minute break. Personally, I prefer timers without music because I won’t start singing along to the lyrics and I can listen to my own music.
- Watch a yule log video
This works best during December finals week, when it’s a friendly reminder that — as soon as I’m done studying — it will officially be Christmas.
- Hold your own dance party
Whenever I feel absolutely overwhelmed and unmotivated, I take a 2-3 minute break in my bedroom. I pick an upbeat song and re-energize my body before I return to my downbeat chemistry homework.
- Listen to instrumental music
My personal favorite is the “Bridgerton” soundtrack, since the songs are typically instrumental covers of modern songs. Christmas instrumentals during finals week also motivate me to study, especially the “Peanuts” soundtrack.
