Craving a sweet treat after school on a cold Jan. 15 day, we headed out to find a place to eat. We were conflicted on where to go until we found a small hole-in-the-wall cafe called Auzzy the Bear, a miniature dessert shop in Los Gatos. Despite its unassuming exterior, our experience at Auzzy the Bear did not disappoint.
We were amazed by the cozy and modern interior design when we entered. The shop was on the smaller side, yet we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the cashier’s friendly service. With glowing yellow lights tucked within the decor, and soft music playing in the background, the cafe seemed like the perfect place to study and relax, complete with wooden stools and tables.
We were conflicted about what dessert to order from the mile-long menu, which included a variety of desserts, boba, mini pizzas and even frozen yogurt. After debating our choices, we both decided to get frozen yogurt. We served ourselves using the self-serve frozen yogurt station. Adarsh got cherry limeade, chunky monkey, Oreo and piña colada. Meanwhile, Ethan ordered plain yogurt and pina colada with strawberry popping boba.
Although self-serve frozen yogurts depend on how much one decides to get, we both ate fully-filled medium-size cups, with Adarsh and Ethan’s yogurt costing $10.64 and $13.68 respectively.
After we paid, the cashier offered us free honey boba on top of our ice creams! Excited, we gladly accepted — you’d never see a Yogurtland cashier offering free items.
Finally, diving into our frozen yogurt, Adarsh first started with the cherry limeade flavor. It was very sweet, but as we both took a subsequent taste of the piña colada yogurt, to our surprise, it lacked any artificial taste. Oreo reminded Adarsh of chocolate milk, and Chunky Monkey was rich and dark chocolatey, offering a bold contrast to the sweeter, lighter options in the lineup. Ethan’s favorite flavor, however, was the Greek plain tart; it had a more subtle flavor, but it stole the show by blending in with the toppings on top.
As for our toppings, although Ethan enjoyed the popping boba, it missed the strawberry taste we were seeking. The regular honey boba was our favorite due to its chewiness.
Overall the flavors were much richer than we expected. Although the flavor selection was far more limited than you’d find at a big chain like Yogurtland, the complex flavor profile of each yogurt more than made up for that. We rate Auzzy the Bear a total of 4.5 out of 5 Falcons!
