With the holiday season approaching, dozens of students are getting ready to attend the annual Winter Formal, to be hosted at Gilroy Gardens on the night of Dec. 7.
This year’s theme, “A Night in Paris,” promises to bring elegance and charm to the beloved venue, which last hosted the 2021 Winter Formal; as a result, several of the Class of ‘25 will be returning to their freshman year venue.
With 534 tickets sold — the maximum tickets available — and 10 buses reserved for transportation, the formal is shaping up to be one of the year’s most memorable events. As tickets sold out before the purchase window closed on Nov. 15, additional students who wish to attend have been put on a waitlist.
According to senior dance commission head Emily Rich, the decision to return to Gilroy Gardens was driven by its success in past years.
“I think it’s such a big hit because of the venue’s decorations. During winter, they have beautiful winter lights, and the setting just feels magical,” Rich said.
The venue not only offers a decorated, private tent for dancing, but also includes access to several rides, giving attendees more to enjoy beyond the dance floor.
Assistant principal and activities director Kristen Cunningham echoed these benefits, emphasizing the venue’s affordability and its excellent partnership with Gilroy Gardens event coordinator Sandy Le.
“The dinner menu is delicious, and the variety of desserts and drinks is always a hit. Students also get to enjoy the rides, a Photo Booth and, of course, the beautiful setting,” Cunningham said.
Planning has been taking place since last spring, spearheaded by activities director Anna Ybarra; dance commissioners Rich, Kinnera Potluri and Megha Horantur; and Cunningham.
While ASB won’t need to set up on the day of the event thanks to the presence of Gilroy Gardens staff, leadership students have been busy preparing centerpieces and organizing student check-in.
“We purchased centerpieces that I will drive to the venue on Dec. 2,” Cunningham said. “From there, Gilroy Gardens takes care of the rest, so we do not need to arrive early that day but can check in at the gym and ride the bus all together.”
Students are encouraged to arrive at the gym at 5:30 p.m. to ensure a timely departure for the venue, where the festivities will kick off at 7 p.m. and will last until 10:30 p.m.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to [formal], especially at the chance to relive my freshman year formal,” Rich said, a sentiment that seems to be shared by many students as they anticipate an enchanting night under the Parisian-inspired lights.
