One of the key purposes of a room is to keep the humans in it insulated from the outside elements. If, however, someone decided to blow a hole in the wall of a room you’re occupying, admitting cold drafts and outside ambience, much of this purpose would become diminished.
As such, I’ve never understood why, in a post-pandemic world, certain teachers find it necessary to leave their doors open without explicit reasons.
I don’t like having to constantly feel the wind (which can cause discomfort in the colder seasons) and hearing the outside conversations of students walking to the restroom or even noises from clattering construction work.
In a world of distractions and chilly drafts, sometimes we have to shut the door, both literally and metaphorically, to create more focused and comfortable spaces.
