David Wang: Math Master

At Saratoga High, the stereotypical student is always obsessed with taking Honors and AP classes. Some overachievers even take multiple science and math classes at the same time. But what happens when students have already taken everything the school has to offer?

Senior David Wang has finished the available math classes and is now taking multi-variable calculus at West Valley.

“It isn’t that bad,” Wang said, “There’s about 10 of us from Saratoga taking the class, and we know each other pretty well.”

Wang is taking this class because he finished the school’s highest level math class, Calculus BC, last year as a junior.

“The homework is optional,” Wang said, “so I don’t get caught up in my homework for my other classes.”

There are the obvious benefits of having optional homework. But that comes with the added stress of the tests and quizzes make up your entire grade, said Wang.

“My favorite part about math is the problem solving aspect of it,” Wang said. “It’s definitely quite interesting. Having great teachers over the years has fueled my interest as well.”

Wang decided taking the class would better prepare him for college courses next year.

“I like to challenge myself,” Wang said, “and this class definitely provides one.”
