Softball Season Recap: Hard work pays off on senior day

1. Season Record: 3-13

2. Highlight of the season (something like a win against LG or something): A season’s worth of work paid off in the team’s senior game against Los Altos on May 11, finishing with a score where they pulled ahead in the 10th inning. “[Our senior game against Los Altos] was good. We had a bad season, losing almost every single game, but we wanted to go out playing our hardest,” said senior Nicole Gragnola. “We all wanted to do it for each other so we made fewer errors and played pretty well.” The final score was 3-2.

3. Lowlight of the season:
“For some games, we’d be playing, but we wouldn’t really be there. We’d go into the game knowing we’d lose so no one would really try,” said senior Cathryn Paolini.

4. Who the captain(s) was: Seniors Emily Baba, Nicole Gragnola, Paolini, Madeline Rothenberg, Stephanie Borsum and Krittika Patil switched off being co-captains every week. Two seniors were captains each week.

5. Quote from captain: “This season was really fun. We ended the season really well because we won our senior game, which is the only game we won. Our team was more about having fun than winning,” said senior third baseman/outfielder Stephanie Borsum .

6. Quote from coach:
“The team worked together like family and the softball season was inspirational. Softball at Saratoga High School has a bright future,” said coach Ray Sisco.

8. MVP, most improved, or any other awards given at the end of the year –
At the softball banquet on May 19, junior Megan Brading received Most Improved award, senior Emily Baba got Most Inspirational, senior Nicole Gragnola was awarded with MVP and seniors Cathryn Paolini and Krittika Patil were given captain awards.
