1. Lost: (Season 6) Feb. 2, 2010
Recap: When we last saw them, Sawyer and Juliet were put on a submarine off an island along with Kate but they took over the submarine and steered it back to the island to save its residents. Locke was being transported through time where he met Richard and discovered that Richard doesn’t age. Sun went back to the island to look for Jin where she was given her wedding ring back. Ben tries looking for Jacob and realizes that he is “fake” and kills Jacob.
Preview: The final season of “Lost” begins on February 2 as the producers try to tie up loose ends of an extremely complex plot. It is nearly impossible to predict what the two brilliant producers, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, have in store for the finale. What Lindelof said to the The Hollywood Reporter leaves fans with great anticipation. ” [We hope that] what people take away from our finale is going to be based purely on that two-hour episode, [but also that] they’ll be able to connect that experience to the six years that preceded it.”
2. Gossip Girl: (Season 3 return) March 8, 2010
Recap: Serena is not going to see Trip anymore. Instead she gets closer with Nate. Serena’s dad tries to contact her but her mom hides his letter. Olivia gets jealous of Vanessa and Dan’s relationship therefore making Dan feel awkward. Blair and Chuck learned to appreciate the sentimental qualities in each other. Lilly and Rufus find out that Scott is their biological son and become part of his life again.
Preview: The drama is on a temporary hiatus but will return on March 8. There are many spoilers, including one that involves Chuck and Blaire going through a “potentially irreparable rough patch” and possibly breaking up, floating around the Internet but many of them are questionable.
3. The Office: (Season 6 postponed until Feb. 28 after the Winter Olympics)
Recap: Dunder Mifflin is bought by a company called Sabre, and the episodes leading up to this turning point are just as important. The viewers get to witness the hilarious twists and turns that come together to create a crazy wedding for Pam and Jim, especially when the cast dance down the aisle to open up the ceremony. After the wedding, Jim assumes his position as co-manager with Michael and the two continue their struggle over the balance of power in Dunder Mifflin. Andy is successful in wooing Erin with his eccentric but sweet ways, like the live production of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
Preview: Under the new management of Sabre, Michael and Jim will meet some struggles as they face inevitable changes in their company. With a new baby on the way, Pam and Jim have to balance the joys of parenthood with the everyday stress in their office. As usual, Dwight will try to complicate Jim’s life with his mischievous plans. There will be forced changes in the now “ex-Dunder Mifflin Paper Company” but the comedy will (of course) remain constant, giving future episodes promise.
4. House: Still continuing Season 6
Recap: In season 6 of House, we follow House and his team who get back on track with their unique patients after House’s stint at a rehab center in the previous season. This season, however, it seems as if the medical aspects of the series are overshadowed by the dynamic relationships between the main characters. House, for now, seems to have given up his chase for Cuddy and respects her relationship with Lucas. We also find out more about Wilson’s “soft spot” for his patients, especially after he donates his liver to a terminal cancer patient, and witness his propensity for guilt trips. At one point, House and Wilson’s new neighbor, Nora, come to the conclude that they are homosexual but in a series of comedic events that follow, Nora eventually finds about the truth about the two men (who are in fact, straight) and realizes that they are “both dirtbags.”
Preview: This season still holds many more riveting medical mysteries yet to unfold. It seems that some closure must be reached between Cuddy and House and, with Lucas in the way, their lives will get even more hopelessly complicated. The side plots including Foreman, Thirteen and Taub will only be enough to distract the viewers from the main plot, or to provide comedic relief, as with the trick the team attempted to play on Foreman.
5. Glee: Season 2 April 2010
Recap: The unity of the Glee Club started to fall apart when Quinn finally admits that the real father of her baby is Puck and not her boyfriend, Finn, who becomes disillusioned. They manage to temporarily set aside the drama and focus on winning the sectionals. Despite the unexpected disqualification of their teacher, Mr. Schuester, the McKinley High School Glee Club wins the Sectionals. Amid their celebrations, Mr. Schuester realizes his feelings for Emma and the season ends with their first kiss.
Preview: There is the possibility of Finn and Rachel getting together in the future episodes, now that everyone knows about the real father of the baby. The kiss between Mr. Schuester and Emma will push the story forward with their complicated relationship. As always, Sue will try to ruin the Glee Club, as she said to Mr. Scheuster, “You’re about to board the Sue Sylvester Express. Destination: Horror!”
As 2010 opens, many shows are either premiering a brand new season or returning back to their already in-progress season after the usual break. But many of these shows overlap in their periods of activity and inactivity–for instance, one can be waiting for the new season of Gossip Girl while catching up with Community, or focus on watching the last intense season of Lost, keeping the upcoming season of Glee in the back of their minds. There is plenty for drama fanatics to satisfy their addiction while waiting for the newest addition of their favorite shows.
