The school’s competitive division Quiz Bowl team placed first in the California Cup 3 tournament on Jan. 16. The team, consisting of senior Rohan Kumar, juniors Bora Alaybeyi and Dhruv Singh and sophomore Anthony Wang, defeated 11 other teams in the competition held on Discord to clinch the victory.
The school also placed third in the standard division and 11th in the novice division.
The next Quiz Bowl tournament will be California Cup 4 on Feb. 13. Kumar, the president of the school’s Quiz Bowl, said that while Cal Cup 4 “isn’t one of the more important tournaments” for the school, all three teams will keep sharpening their skills both in and out of their weekly practices.
“We've already qualified for nationals, so we’re basically going to continue studying and practicing to patch up all our weaknesses for the national competition that will take place in May,” Kumar said.
