The field hockey team is battling hard in the lower El Camino division so far this year after finishing with a losing record and failing to make CCS last season.
The team beat Monta Vista 2-0 on Oct. 3 and lost to Palo Alto 1-0 on Oct. 8. The girls hold a division record of 2-1-1 and an overall record of 3-6-1, placing them behind Palo Alto and Presentation in their league.
However, it is too early to tell whether or not they will qualify for CCS.
Junior right midfielder Jasmin Reddy attributes a large part of their recent success to the additions of three sophomores, forward Rima Christie, center mid Lauren Yarrington and centerback Olivia Kinoshita, who have strengthened both the team’s defense and offense.
While these valuable additions have greatly improved the team’s overall play, coach Nanu Sidhu has also implemented new practice regimens and methods to prepare for upcoming games, including film work and scouting opponents.
In addition, Sidhu has focused more on conditioning, specifically sprints, during the preseason, and this has translated to the team’s play on the field.
“It has helped us become we are more fit and we are able to run for a longer amount of time during games,” Reddy said.
For the rest of the season, the field hockey team hopes to improve on strengthening their defense, which allows their offense to have more opportunities to score. They hope to improve on this by working on their defensive plays and aggressiveness during practice.
“This season we are a lot stronger as a team overall, and we all hope to make it to CCS because of the new changes we have made,” Reddy said.
