Homecoming review: Class of ’17 dances impressively, but Quad Day plot hard to follow

To kick off Homecoming week, the freshmen put on their first quad day performance on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at lunch. Their skit roughly told a story of two boys who searched the world to take back one of the boys’ girlfriends, who was stolen by another boy. 

The skit starred freshmen William Chen, Seena Ghafouri, Sarah Traina and Peter Vandevort. However, the skit was admittedly incoherent and hard to follow in part because the audio was hard to hear but largely because the plot lacked direction. 

“We don’t understand [the plot] either,” said Vandevort. “We had an original plot down, but then we allowed people to revise the script and that screwed with the plot.”

The skit originally had a story, in which Herbert, a character in Club Penguin, traveled the world to find other characters in Club Penguin. But, as other freshmen edited the script, this original plot was lost. 

While their skit was flawed, their dance performances, especially the girls’ Bollywood-themed dance, were impressive. The freshmen had many participants in each of the dances and each one was unique. 

Another bright spot to their first Homecoming week was their decorations. 

“Decorations were pretty good, I heard some upperclassmen were impressed with our decorations,” Ghafouri said.

The freshmen hope to build on their first decoration and Quad Day experiences in the future. In the end, Homecoming is really about class and school spirit.

“[I liked] all the classes standing out and representing themselves and [showing] school spirit,” Ghafouri said.

While their performance this year won’t be enough for victory, they learned a lot. 

“We did terrible, but we had fun,” Vandevort.
