Falcons crush Los Altos due to thriving Wing T offense

With what seemed to be the perfect start to the weekend’s Homecoming festivities, the Falcons crushed their division rivals the Los Altos Eagles, 48-13, on Oct. 3 in front of an ecstatic Homecoming game crowd.

The Falcons moved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the De Anza League with the victory. Unlike in their last few games, the Falcons’ running game thrived under their new Wing T offense. Senior running back Tim Yen rushed for a total 124 yards and a touchdown and Senior running backs Mat Spencer and Casey Farmer scored two touchdowns apiece on the ground.

Junior running back Grant Thomas began the scoring with a 34-yard run in the first couple of minutes. Although the Eagles quickly answered back with a 30-yard touchdown pass, Spencer scored on an 11-yard run with two minutes left in the first quarter to give the Falcons a 14-7 lead.

The Falcons’ offense lit up in the second quarter, reaching the end zone four times in 12 minutes. Spencer scored his second running touchdown early in the period, and Farmer scored his first on a 13-yard run with six minutes before halftime. Yen scored on a one-yard drive set up by his previous 50-yard run, raising the score to 35-7. To end the half, senior defensive lineman Jasper Loren intercepted a pass and returned it all the way, putting Saratoga up by 34.

After the halftime break, the Eagles changed their defensive scheme and were able to hold the Falcons to just one score throughout the rest of the game, but they weren’t able to reinvigorate their offense and only managed one late score.

The Falcons will play at Mountain View Oct. 10 at 3:15 p.m.
