Sophomore Millie Wang beat many of her personal records throughout the season.

While the girls golf team didn’t make CCS, players said they were proud that five of the six starters qualified for league finals. The other highlight of the season was the individual performances of No. 1 Millie Wang and No. 2 player Sarah Lim, both of whom qualified for CCS as individuals. (Lim had conflicts and chose not to attend the tournament.)

Wang finished seventh at CCS and advanced to the NorCal tournament, which was at the Berkeley Country Club, where she carded a 4 over par and finished in 8th place.

In terms of her CCS effort, Wang thought she could have done better, saying, “I didn’t play as well as I thought I would because I had a small swing change right before CCS. I started off with a double bogey

on the second hole, but I still recovered.”

Still, in comparison with last year’s league finals, she had a seven-stroke improvement, and throughout the season, she broke her personal bests multiple times. At Baylands Golf Links, Wang shot a 3 under par and at Coyote Creek she came in at a 2 under par, a personal record breaker.

In regular season league play, the Falcons finished fourth out of nine teams. As the season ended, the team had a team banquet on Nov. 5, where their coach, Dave Gragnola, announced awards, including the team captain. Coach Gragnola selected senior Carine Chan as team captain and Millie as  MVP of the team. Sophomore Arista Suvarna got the most improved award.

“My favorite moment was being with my team. After each match, we went out to eat at Chick-fil-A and Chipotle, so I feel like I’ve become a lot closer with my team,” Wang said. “I will really miss our seniors.” The seniors were Carine Chan and Tara Natarajan.
