Trends that need to end

Reporter argues that the current wave of trends needs to stop.

People often obsess over the latest trends, whether it’s breaking out into a funky dance move or putting bold fashion statements to the test. Though the majority of popular trends today are relatively interesting and reasonable, there are some trends that need to simply be left behind.

While slightly distressed and ripped jeans are a common style, the trend of wearing super ripped jeans needs to end. Extremely ripped jeans are just plain dumb.

These jeans have too many large rips and holes in them, leaving behind only the basic framework of the jeans. With so much fabric missing, these excessively ripped jeans are nothing more than a pair of shorts. People enjoy wearing jeans in cooler weather, but if there are too many rips and holes in them, it defeats the purpose of wearing jeans in the first place.

In addition, wearing platform crocs is another trend that has received mixed responses. These bulky, brightly colored foam shoes have a 10-centimeter platform and was the product of a Balenciaga and Crocs collaboration. With their high prices, ranging up to a stunning $850, their impracticality and overall hideous design, platform crocs should stop appearing as a stylish fashion statement.

Another popular trend right now is the Japanese tin foil ball challenge, where people spend hours polishing balls of aluminum foil until they turn into smooth, shiny metal balls. Though it may seem satisfying to do, the process wastes many precious hours in creating something that won’t serve any purpose later on. So unless someone is willing to spend a good half of their day pounding and sanding a tin foil ball, this trend is pointless and needs to end.

For whatever reason, participating in terrible trends seems to be an innate part of human behavior. Thankfully, some of these previous crazes, like fidget spinners and dabbing, have finally started to fade. As far as I’m concerned, the current wave of trends can’t die soon enough.
