What club lacks an adviser and may not survive long enough to compete against other schools this year? Beep. The answer is the Quiz Bowl Club.

Quiz Bowl is a trivia game that is played in teams of four, with question subjects ranging from history, literature and science. The teams compete in tournaments with schools around the area, such as powerhouses Bellarmine and Mission San Jose, or opt to participate in Quiz Kids, a televised match between two teams.

The club ran smoothly for last two years under the leadership of 2011 graduate Vijay Menon. The club had regularly participated in the Quiz Kids show.

However, after Menon graduated, the club has been wandering without a navigator. Junior Maggy Liu has been working to find an adviser. With the novice tournament quickly approaching, she is unsure of the status of the club.

“If [we don’t get an adviser], we’ll just be an unofficial club for this year and work on training for the year,” Liu said.

Liu believes that many students may be interested in different categories of the Quiz Bowl, so she is not concerned about recruiting.

“[We are not recruiting] for now because we’re a new team and the focus of Quiz Bowl would be to cultivate this desire to learn more about a specific branch,” Liu said.

Although the Quiz Bowl is not as widely known as other activities at school, thousands of teams participate in this competition nationally.

“It’s popular because the topics are so broad that it appeals to people who are interested in subjects such as science, history and literature,” Liu said.
