The Health and Community Commission will host a school-wide decoration competition and Gift Drive in December in coordination with a children’s toy donation organization.

“We think this event will really be of interest to the students because it combines the holiday spirit theme and that should be fun for people,” said senior Vivek Murthy.

The 2014-2015 commission, led by juniors Isha Mangal and Deepthi Sampathkumar and seniors Rohan Bhardwaj, Vivek Murthy, Mounika Narayanan and Brandon Nguyen, has already held a school supplies drive for the “WEED like to help” campaign that supported the fire-devastated city of Weed, California, home to science teacher Orre.

Teaming up with Leadership and the Publicity Commission, the Health and Community team put up posters around the school to spread the word and created an event over Facebook encouraging the school to donate supplies.

By the end of the campaign, the commission was able to raise close to 50 boxes of supplies for the city.

The first of the multiple blood drives the commission plans to host this year will take place in December. Murthy hopes that more seniors in particular will be inclined to donate during second semester
