The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) of the city of Saratoga Library hosted its biannual Coffeehouse on Friday, Oct. 30, with a Halloween-themed twist.

The night, which took place in the community room, featured various performances ranging from comedic skits to acoustic singing with snacks and beverages for audience members and performers.

The TAB spend several weeks in advance preparing for the event, meeting every third Tuesday of the month. The coordinator for the event, Cupertino High senior Carissa Ko, broke it down into two stages: first planning and the actual running of it.

“We [ TAB members] get here early at 5 p.m. and everyone works to set up the Halloween decorations and the sound system,” Ko said. “I primarily set up the food and decorations, but [in previous years] I typically did the stage managing and sound system.”

Club adviser and librarian Birgit Spring said that TAB promoted the event. Spring said they made fliers, promoted it on Facebook and invited their friends to be guests as well as performers.

Members of TAB and the performers called the event was a success with a rough estimate of 40 attendees.

“Since there were many family members and friends, people from different schools here, I think that it draws an accepting community,” Ko said. “The performers are talented so I think that just by themselves they draw a crowd, and they make the night really fun.”

Performers seniors Isha Mangal and Camille Bismonte sung for the event. Bismonte has been doing performing for TAB’s Coffeehouse since her sophomore year. This year she choose to sing “High” by Tove Lo.

“I choose High by Tove Lo because I thought it would be fun to take a pop song and make it more jazzy,” Bismonte said. “There’s more and more people every year and they are getting better and better, and everyone’s really accepting no matter what type of performance.”

According to Ko the event went “great,” and she hopes that the spring Coffeehouse will attract more people.
